"I have no prouder boast than to say I am Irish and have been privileged to fight for the Irish people and for Ireland. If I have a duty I will perform it to the full in the unshakable belief that we are a noble race and that chains and bonds have no part in us."

Kathleen Lynn : A Revolutionary Doctor

Another brilliant documentary I caught on TG4 the other night, the story of a suffragette, a dedicated Fenian, a revolutionary, a feminist, a Surgeon-General and Captain in James Connolly's Irish Citizen Army, Kathleen Lynn, who was also the chief doctor treating the wounded during the Easter Rising and because Dublin had the highest infant mortality rate in the world when she became a doctor in 1902, in addition to dedicating herself to helping Dublin's poor, especially struggling mothers, she became the founder of Ireland's first infant hospital, St. Ultan's in 1919.

Well worth a watch !
